Call it a mid-wife clinic, maternity center or birth center – a clinic to give birth to babies is in the birthing stage in the town of Udumalpet which is 80 kilometers away from the City of Coimbatore. Over 100 villages surround this town with an escalating population of over 250,000 people. The main problem in the surrounding villages is not a pleasant thing to discuss and is still practiced in several of these villages. Female infanticide is a problem which no one wants to talk about, but everyone feels the pain. When a woman gives birth to a girl baby, especially the first born, if a son is not born, it is usual that the husband will not come home until the baby is discarded by any means. Girl children are considered a curse for them and a huge burden to bring them up and pay a dowry to get them married. To pretend that it was still born child, the grandmother will put a couple of rice kernels in the mouth of the new born so that the child will choke and die. Then every one is told that this child was a still born baby and gets rid of a so called burden to the family and society. What a tragedy! The vision is to save every girl baby that are born in those villages and give them a new life in Jesus Christ.

Thus, a Mid-Wife Clinic has been opened where the women can give birth and leave the baby with us if they did not want to have them. Free health services will be provided to women, children and men who really need care and cannot afford it.
